In early spring, Michael and I made a list of the things we'd like to do around the house. At the top of the list was improving our curb appeal. We got a new retaining wall built on our parkway (the area between the sidewalk and the street) and had it planted with shade-loving perennials:
Then, I used my mad gardening skills to plant a window box:
And a pot for our front porch:
Next up is replacing our ugly door. I had the door guy out yesterday, and the process seems relatively painless, but we need to pick the color. Here is where I need your help. Michael wants a really nice wood door. Most of the really nice houses in our neighborhood have gorgeous wood doors. And I love them. But most of those houses are built of darker brick and don't have green windows. Since we are stuck with our green windows (and our green porch, though that is paint-able), I think we need to embrace the green.
I did my best to mock up the two door options. The green looks slightly off, here, but I saw an actual sample yesterday, and it does match the windows perfectly. So... what say you Internet? Green door or wood door?
I'm not the design-y -est person, but I like the green. I feel like it sort of unifies everything, rather than making the door its own "zone." Curious to see what others think!

Do you think you'll paint the porch or redo the window casings? If so, do wood. If not, go green! I had a green door on my yellow house on Seeley, loved it!

I like the Green it seems fresher than the wood.

I think I prefer the brown. It's more soothing and softens the green that it seems you guys aren't crazy about anyway. Yes, I definitely say go with a beautiful brown, wooden door. Keep us posted. :)

If you're going to stick with the green porch, go green with the door. It's a bit kitschy, but it unifies your trim. The brown would be out of place with the green stairs.
If you ever intend to change your porch though, go brown. It's too hard to strip paint off and then re-stain to get a nice brown. What about a lighter brown (like a medium oak)?. Wouldn't contrast as much against your brick.

Green door. I like the character of your house and I think the green stays in the theme... am MUY jealous of that retaining wall, btw.

I would pick the brown. It gives the entrance its own focal point.

Green! Feels much more modern, and unifies the color scheme even if you were to change the color of the porch.

I will add my two cents a bit late. (Checking out your blog from mamapundit. Like your recipes and will return for that reason.) Both the green and the brown doors look nice. You won't go wrong either way. But to add more interest, would it be possible to replace the windows of the door with clear or solid colored stained glass, maybe with leaded design detail. I think that would make the door more distinctive.
