My Grandma Lilly is an incredibly superstitious woman. She won't open an umbrella indoors, hats NEVER go on a bed, when visiting her, you absolutely can not go back into the house if you have forgotten something, and anytime you EVER say anything positive, you must say the word, "Kaynahoreh."
I always thought of this word as the yiddish version of jinx, but I was thinking about it today, and I did some googling. According to Bubby Gram, kaynahoreh is:
a superstitious word said to ward off evil spirits
So, if you are with Grandma Lilly and you want to go take a walk, and you notice the sun is shining, you might say, "Wow, the sun has finally come out, kaynahoreh." Or, if you are finally feeling better after a bad cold, you would say, "I am feeling much better, kaynahoreh."
Why was I researching kaynahoreh today? Little Max slept through the night last night for the very first time, KAYNAHOREH.
Now THAT is true cause for celebration! What on earth are you going to do with yourself with so much sleep?

It means:kain-a-ain-hara. Which means in a mix of German and hebrew (hence, yidish) without an evil eye.
